World Sporting British Champion Ben Husthwaite receiving
trophy from Mark Oliver (left) September 9th 2007.

The 2nd World Sporting British Championship was held on September the
9th 2007. Once again the weather was perfect for shooting, little wind and
not too bright for the most part of the day.

The course was set over ten stands using 22 traps (8 two trap) and
(2 three trap) stands using sequences as in compak or the super sporting format.

Course designer Mark Oliver set the shoot up to be won on 94 ex 100, and
as with last years event the high 80s was proving hard to beat.

Many shooters  came to grief on stand 1, a low right to left crossing pair of orange targets flying below the shooting position in the valley.

Stand six was another, only two traps but tricky targets with a left to right 40 yard standard crosser and 55 yard left to right battue.

And stand 9 destroyed many a good score with a fast going away midi teal
along with a 50 yard looping chondel which after tackling the battue on stand six was missed by many in front.

That was until defending Champion Ben Husthwaite returned a score of 95.
Ben believed that this score would be beaten and as he had shot this score with a borrowed gun he knew that there was a couple of targets he should have not missed. With many top names in the sport still to shoot he had an
anxious wait to see if it would be bettered.

However the score held, with only two other shooters managing to break the 90 barrier and Ben retains his title taking the 2007 trophy and £800 High Gun prize money.

Mark Oliver
